BARELY two months after releasing a hilarious drama comedy movie - Madlela Skhobokhobo Power - which depicts the life of Zimbabweans based in South Africa, a co-star to the movie has passed away.

Daniel Ncube who played the role of Mazinyane - Madlela's nephew in the rib cracking comedy died on Wednesday morning after a short illness in South Africa.

In a statement, his friend and colleague in the arts industry, also based in South Africa Mothusi Bashimane Ndlovu said the arts industry had once again been robbed of yet another talented artiste and brother.

"The Madlela cast is deeply saddened by his untimely death, sithi akaphumule uNcube," said Bashimane.

A memorial for Ncube was held yesterday at the Hillbrow Theatre, which has become a home to many Zimbabwean artistes based in South Africa.

His burial is scheduled for this week in Zimbabwe after all necessary paper work has been attended to.

"He was born in Nyamandlovu in 1976 and attended George Silundika School where he did his Ordinary Level. He then ventured into the arts, attached to Missing Piece, which is now known as Victory Siyanqoba and then left for South Africa in 2004," said Bashimane.

He said Ncube was survived by two children, a girl and a boy.

"He was not married. He died at a time when things were starting to look bright for him, especially after playing a major part in Madlela. Ibisikhulile indoda… indala ukudlula umalumakhe uMadlela (He was grown up . . . he was older than his uncle in the movie)," added Bashimane.

In the movie Mazinyane's (Daniel) character was more of a reserved person, who kept to himself and was concerned about saving up money for the betterment of his life.

He was more of a pacifier when his uncle (Madlela) caused commotion.

Although his uncle arrived to stay with him in South Africa without notice, he did not show any hate but behaved in a calm manner even in the face of insults from the visiting uncle who accused him of not taking care of his mother.

He was prepared to take care of his rather eccentric uncle who could not mind his own business but got himself in trouble with his interference in issues that did not concern him.

The drama movie depicts the life that most Zimbabweans are living in South Africa especially those that went there without the necessary documentation and who are not professionals and are doing odd jobs while some ladies have turned to prostitution.

"The role he played practically summed up the type of person he was in real life – calm and peace loving," said Bashimane.

Other artistes and friends poured their heartfelt condolences on his Facebook wall, after learning of his death, with most of them wondering on who was going to be a suitable replacement to his role as Mazinyane in Madlela.
