A MAN from Mbundane suburb in Bulawayo allegedly raped a 23-year-old pregnant woman who turned down his love proposal.
Edias Moyo, 34, dragged the four months pregnant woman - who was coming from her parents' house in Nkulumane - into a bushy area and ordered her to remove her clothes.
The man is alleged to have become aggressive when his proposal was turned down and threatened to kill the woman if she did not comply with his orders.
Moyo appeared before provincial magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo facing a rape charge and was not asked to plead.
He was remanded in custody to February 5.
Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza told the court that on December 20 last year, Moyo met the woman near Ushewokunze plot in Rangemore and raped her.
"The woman was coming from her parents' house in Nkulumane going to her house in Rangemore. She used a footpath which passes through a bushy area where she met Moyo. He asked her where she was going after which he proposed love to her," said Mageza.
Sensing danger, the woman tried to run away but did not go far as she was pregnant. When Moyo caught up with her, he dragged her into a nearby bush.
He threatened to kill the screaming woman if she continued making noise or defied his order to take off her clothes.
After raping her, he ordered her to proceed to her place of residence. The matter was reported to the police and Moyo was only arrested on Wednesday after the woman saw him while she was on her way to fetch water at a borehole.
When they met, the two did not exchange any words, but after fetching the water, the terrified woman went to her place of residence and Moyo went to a local bottle store.
The woman then proceeded to the police station where she reported about her second encounter with Moyo, leading to his arrest.
