A BULAWAYO woman yesterday told a court that sex with her husband was interfering with her studies.

Winnet Mzila, a Midlands State University student dragged her husband, Bekimpilo Mzila of Entumbane to court saying he was forcefully engaging sex with her whilst she wanted to do her assignments.

Winnet who was seeking a protection order against Mzila told magistrate Marylene Mtshina that he assaulted her with a knobkerrie until it broke.

She produced the broken knobkerrie in court as evidence to the allegations and told the court that she has since moved out of the house.

"Your Worship, it is so disturbing to be touched whilst trying to concentrate on my books.

"When I'm trying to read he tells me that I should come and engage in sex with him. When I tell him that I'm tired and want to do my assignments he starts shouting and accusing me of having an affair."

"This other day he beat me up with a knobkerrie on the arm and on the head. When I was trying to protect my head with my arm he hit me and injured me.

"Right now my arm is sore. I fled from home in the middle of the night due to the attacks," she said.

Mzila admitted the allegations and told the court that he apologised to his wife for beating her up.

"Your Worship, first of all my wife and I didn't agree that she should study at MSU. I wanted her to do teaching so she can get employed at a school near our home," said Mzila

"We had a misunderstanding on the day I hit her with the knobkerrie. She also hit me with a metal bar on the ribs. I still love my wife and I want her to come back home. I'm really sorry for depriving her, her rightful position of being a woman," he said.

Mtshina granted the protection order and instructed the couple to go for counselling for four weeks.
