The political commentator Makheli Ndiweni has said the Zimbabwean problems started affecting people of Matabeleland ahead of all other regions because of Gukurahundi attacks on the PF Zapu supporters by the ruling Zanu PF which led most of the people to migrate to South Africa.
"The Zimbabwe problems were first seen by the Matabele people and they adopted a policy of learning up to Grade 7 and then vamoose to Mzansi, they had no option because after being Gukurahundiated they were left with no hope to find any job in a country where their citizenship is not being respected," said Ndiweni. "The Shonas not all of them enjoyed being treated as first class citizens until 1999 when the MDC was formed. President Robert Mugabe was shocked by the Shona vote in 2000 and later in 2008 because he considered the Shona as his loyalists put."
He said alas Shonas rebelled and Mugabe used the state machinery in another moment of madness part 2 against the Shonas and the Shonas adopted the Go to school finish your A level and go to University and then migrate to UK and SA and do menial jobs there.
"Those left behind all became degreed vendors. That is the story of Zimbos both Shonas and Matebeles," he said.
