A GWERU man, aged 23, who pelted a security guard with stones before stabbing him with an unknown object was last week jailed to an effective seven months after being convicted of assault.
Mqondisi Ncube of Mkoba 6 Suburb, Gweru had a misunderstanding with another man, who ran and sought refuge at a flea market, where David Selemani worked as a guard.
Ncube then turned his anger on Selemani before assaulting him.
Gweru magistrate, Musaiona Shotgame sentenced Ncube to 12 months before suspending five months on condition of good behaviour.
"The man, who was being attacked, ran to the security guard to seek refuge," the court heard.
"The accused asked the complainant if he was his rival's guard and started to assault him by pelting him with stones before stabbing him once on the head with an unknown object."
Selemani sustained a cut on the head and was treated at Gweru General Hospital.
A report was made to the police leading to Ncube's arrest.
