Oxfam Zimbabwe launches flood response programme in Mberengwa

Oxfam in Zimbabwe an organisation funded by the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation (ECHO) has launched the Zimbabwe Flood Response in 10 Wards of Mberengwa District in the Midlands Province, Zimbabwe.
The organisation said the Humanitarian response to the devastating impact of Cyclone Dineo which hit most Southern Provinces of Zimbabwe will run up to October focusing on Food Security and livelihoods, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Disaster Risk Reduction, Contingency planning and preparedness. Working with government and other local stakeholders, the humanitarian response aims to: - Provide safe drinking water and raise awareness on good health and hygiene practices to 12,320 households in 10 affected wards.
The organisation said the programme sought to provide unconditional multi-purpose cash assistance to meet the emerging needs of 280 Households who had their homes destroyed or damaged, develop the capacity of communities on disaster risk management ensuring Activities to be implemented, as part of the humanitarian response will include and rehabilitation of water points and Training of water point committees.
Oxfam said it also provided water quality monitoring and Distribution of water guard to 12,320 households - Health and hygiene promotion and efficient use of water and water conservation messaging. unconditional once off cash distributions to 280 households and trainings on Disaster Risk Management and development of Disaster Risk Management plans.
