Former Information Minister Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, who was on Friday removed from European Union Sanctions list with 50 others claims that the move is aimed at dividing the faction ridden Zanu-PF. Ndlovu said the partial removal of sanctions is part of the West "divide and rule" tactic.

"Its an attempt to divide and rule us and there is nothing special in that I have been removed from the sanctions list" said Ndlovu.

He further claimed " it gives an impression that those colleagues who have been delisted are sellouts who now agree with the West policies .No this is wrong. We are united in Zanu PF and the EU is trying to fool us' Ndlovu.

However, Ndlovu in one of leaked Wikileaks cables is extensively quoted chided the US for keeping him on the sanctions list, yet he provided them with useful information.

Ndlovu is quoted telling the Americans that Politburo members were considering their future after President Robert Mugabe had stepped down.

"In an April 24 (2002) conversation with political section chief, Zanu-PF deputy political commissar Sikhanyiso Ndlovu said Politburo members are, for the first time, quietly discussing ways to ease President Mugabe out, but few are willing to confront the Zimbabwean President directly. "

According to Ndlovu, any solution must contain a "safe package" for Mugabe, which protects him from prosecution and allows him to remain in Zimbabwe," the cable revealed.

The cable indicates that Ndlovu, who had held several meetings with US Embassy officials, described himself as ''a voice of moderation'' in the Politburo who "regularly tries to restrain the worst excesses of party hardliners."

From Matabeleland those that have been removed include Tshinga Dube, Abedinico Ncube, Eunice Moyo Sandi and Hebert Nkala.
