President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared Friday that the ruling Zanu-PF party would still be in power after the July elections and scorned the opposition parties as "barking puppies".

According to NewZimbabwe.com, Mnangagwa was addressing a campaign rally attended by thousands of supporters at-PFupajena Stadium in Chegutu.

"Zanu-PF is in power. Let it be known that nothing will change in this country even if we go for elections because people will vote for our party," he said.

"Elections on 30 July belong to Zanu-PF. We dictate what happens in this country. We already have an upper hand and the election has been won already by us.

"Let those who want to argue do so, but just vote for Zanu-PF."

Mnangagwa's main challenger in the July vote is 40-year-old Nelson Chamisa, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), who says the president will not win a free vote.
