The appointment Engineer Mackenzie Ncube as the new National Oil Infrastructure Company (NOIC) board chairman has stirred the hornets' nest with analysts calling it a political move by President Emmerson Mnangagwa meant to supervise the work of the newly appointed Minister of Energy and Power Development Advocate Fortune Chasi.

Engineer Ncube is a former ZANU PF Midlands South Provincial Chairperson.

Lawyer Alex Magaisa said, "One thing not noticed the first time is that tucked at the bottom of the page is the announcement of a new board chair for the national oil company (NOIC). The new man is Mackenzie Ncube - Midlands. The boss has his gatekeeper. The outgoing chair is likely seen as a G40 remnant."

Professor Jonathan Moyo who share the same sentiments with Magaisa said the appointment was supposed to be recommended and done by Chasi as the new minister.

"I know because Chasi has not been sworn in as minister, yet Ncube has already been appointed and his appointment was announced at the same time with the appointment of Chasi.

"The issue is not about any man but about the system in place: it's rotten. Notice how Mnangagwa has appointed a crony, Mackenzie Ncube, to chair NOIC. That appointment should have been recommended and done by Chasi, who has been pre-empted made useless."

Mckenzie was made to repeat a slogan denouncing Mnangagwa during a rally when the then Vice President had fled to South Africa after being fired from office.
