Cop steals own impounded car at police station

A Bulawayo cop has been arrested and charged for stealing his vehicle that had been impounded by police for violating the lockdown regulations.
Nkosilathi Nyathi of Nkulumane Surburb whose rank is a chief inspector allegedly stole his Kombi Toyota Hiace at Ross Camp Station in Bulawayo on Saturday after he had failed to secure its realise.
According to an internal police memo seen by this publication, the vehicle was impounded at Mabutho suburb, by police details and Bulawayo City Council security officers, after a chase but the driver managed to evade the arrest after he made good his escape, leaving the vehicle stuck in the mud.
The vehicle was then taken to Ross camp where it was clamped and parked by Bulawayo City Council security officers.
It is said, the driver, Nkosilathi Nyathi later turned up at Ross Camp to claim his vehicle and was told that there were fines to be made as well as clearance from Drill Hall by ZRP.
Nyathi reportedly went to Bulawayo City Council and came with payment receipts but was told clearance was to be done at Drill Hall. However, the accused would have none of that as he forcibly drove away without permission. He was swiftly arrested, detained and charged with vehicle theft and would appear in court soon.
Cases of vehicles violating lockdown rules are ripe in the country as most kombis pay their way in town.
