Zimbabwe's Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science, and Technology Development, Amon Murwira, encouraged Zimbabweans to have faith in their abilities, focus on the future, and collaborate as a team to enhance the country's resources. He made these remarks during the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe (CGIZ), the African Professionalisation Initiative (API), and the Management Training Bureau to professionalize the public sector.
In his keynote address, Minister Murwira emphasized the significance of action supported by teamwork. He highlighted the presence of talented individuals and questioned why the country had not achieved its full potential. He suggested that the lack of networking and collaboration was a hindrance, emphasizing the importance of working together as a team.
The Minister also criticized nostalgia for the past, urging people to focus on the future and not dwell on what has already transpired. He emphasized the need to take ownership of building the country and to look to the future rather than seeking external solutions.
Admire Ndurunduru, Secretary of the Public Accountants and Auditors Board, stressed the impact of public sector finances on everyone and called for concrete action to follow the commitments made in the MoU.
Lovemore Gomera, CEO of CGIZ, discussed the organization's partnerships with universities and various institutions. He highlighted the qualifications and programs offered by CGIZ, including chartered governance, public sector accounting, business and accounting studies, forensic accounting, and governance, risk, and compliance.
Nelson Maseko, Executive Director of the Management Training Bureau, mentioned the potential for the partnership between the bureau, API, and CGIZ to expand to other African countries.
API head Evans Mulera praised Zimbabwe's investment in education and the country's reputation for producing high-quality professionals. He described Zimbabwe as a shining light on the African continent.
