A 19-year-old individual from Mangwe in Matabeleland South has been handed a two-month prison sentence for the theft of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras valued at US$400 from Stockstown Farm.
Lungisani Ndlovu appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware on Monday, charged with theft.
Nembaware opted to suspend the sentence on the condition that Ndlovu compensates the complainant for the stolen property. Failure to comply with this condition will result in the execution of the prison sentence.
According to prosecutor Selestine Madziwa, Ndlovu committed the theft on April 9 this year when he unlawfully took the cameras from Stockstown Farm.
Suspicion fell on Ndlovu after farmers reported observing his suspicious behavior during his visit to the property. Following the report to the police, Ndlovu was subsequently apprehended.
