The Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS) has commenced preparations for the 115th edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show, with this year's event set to run from August 25 to 30 under the theme "Building Bridges."

The annual showcase, which is the country's premier agricultural exhibition, is expected to draw increased participation judging by the early rate of registrations, according to ZAS chief executive officer Rufaro Gunundu. Last year's edition attracted more than 250,000 visitors and featured around 560 exhibitors, reflecting its status as a major platform for promoting Zimbabwe's agriculture and agro-industrial sectors.

"We have started registration and we are hopeful that by the time of the event, we will have a great number of participants," Gunundu said in an interview with NewsDay Business. "Our preparations are at an advanced stage and we are bringing the community, industry and farmers together."

Gunundu said the main focus this year is to attract new players to the show while retaining the loyal exhibitors who have supported the event over the years. While it is still too early to confirm the final number of participants, he indicated there is strong interest across sectors.

"That has always been our wish - to have new players coming in, and we will try all means this year to achieve that," he said.

The ZAS boss also revealed that infrastructure upgrades are underway at the showgrounds, including enhancements to the business hub, to ensure the venue is fully prepared to host thousands of attendees.

"There are no problems, and I feel we are in a good situation," Gunundu said. "We conduct a thorough post-event evaluation every year to identify areas for improvement, and this year we aim to make the show bigger and better in response to feedback from stakeholders."

The show is a significant event on Zimbabwe's economic calendar, offering a platform for showcasing agricultural innovation, fostering linkages between producers and buyers, and driving rural and industrial development. It also serves as a vital networking opportunity for policymakers, farmers, agribusinesses, and financiers.

Gunundu confirmed that local banks are once again backing the event through sponsorship, a move expected to boost participation and promote financial inclusion within the sector.

With just under four months to go, anticipation is building for what promises to be another landmark edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show, as stakeholders rally behind the theme of collaboration and connectivity across the agricultural value chain.
