The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has strongly denied any involvement in a reported anti-smuggling operation allegedly being carried out by individuals posing as its officials on major highways across the country. In a statement released this week, the Commission clarified that it is not participating in such activities and expressed concern over the illegal conduct of the imposters.

ZACC stated that these individuals are unlawfully presenting themselves as Commission officers, targeting unsuspecting members of the public and motorists under the guise of enforcing anti-smuggling laws. The Commission condemned these acts as criminal and damaging, warning that they not only violate the law but also harm the integrity of genuine law enforcement operations.

"These imposters are fleecing Zimbabweans of their hard-earned cash and tarnishing the image of our institution and other genuine authorities," ZACC said. It issued a stern warning to those involved to stop the impersonation immediately and stressed that anyone caught committing such offences would face arrest and prosecution.

The Commission urged members of the public to remain alert and exercise caution when approached by anyone claiming to be from ZACC. It advised citizens to always demand official identification, verify credentials, refuse to offer bribes, and report any suspicious behavior. ZACC emphasized the importance of community involvement in exposing criminal imposters and safeguarding the credibility of official anti-corruption efforts.

In its statement, ZACC provided contact information for provincial investigators who can assist in verifying the legitimacy of individuals claiming to be part of the Commission. These contacts cover all major regions, including Harare, Mashonaland East, Bulawayo, Matabeleland provinces, Midlands, Mashonaland West, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, and Masvingo.

The Commission also invited the public to reach out for any further clarification through its spokesperson, Ms. Simiso Mlevu, who is available for direct contact. ZACC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, and called on all Zimbabweans to play their part in the ongoing fight against corruption.
