Zimbabwe's electricity supply continues to show steady improvement, with national power generation reaching 1,586 megawatts (MW) on Tuesday, up from 1,417MW recorded the previous day. This marks a significant milestone in the country's ongoing efforts to secure energy stability and support economic growth.

According to data released by the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), the increase in output reflects successful technical interventions aimed at stabilising the national grid following recent setbacks.

Hwange Power Station emerged as the main contributor to the rebound, increasing its output to 1,148MW from 979MW on Monday. This recovery follows swift repairs by ZPC engineers after an incident on May 4, where acidic water damaged several boilers, causing a sharp decline in power generation.

Between May 5 and May 9, the national output had dropped to 1,145MW, with Hwange's contribution reduced to just 670MW. The lowest generation this month was recorded on May 17, at 989MW.

However, power production began to recover from May 23, peaking at 1,619MW  -  the highest level recorded so far this month.

Kariba South Hydropower Station sustained a steady supply of 400MW to the national grid on Tuesday, while Independent Power Producers (IPPs) contributed an additional 38MW.

The gradual improvement in power generation comes at a crucial time as Zimbabwe intensifies its industrialisation agenda under Vision 2030, with a reliable electricity supply identified as a key driver of economic transformation and resilience.

Zimbabwe Power Company officials remain optimistic that continued maintenance and operational efficiency will further enhance power availability to meet growing demand across the country.
