Brian Seke, 34, from Sakubva, appeared before Mutare magistrate Ms. Perseverance Makala on charges of domestic violence, impersonating a police officer, and malicious damage to property. He was sentenced to four months in jail, with two months suspended on usual conditions.

Seke faced three counts of domestic violence after he allegedly twisted the hand of Susan Nyadombo and assaulted his mother-in-law, Josephine Muringa, with open hands and fists. He was also accused of damaging six window panes at their home.

In addition, Seke was charged with impersonating a police officer, having been arrested on May 17, 2025, wearing a full police uniform and handcuffs.

Prosecutor Deliwa Masibera told the court that the incident began when Nyadombo attempted to collect school fees for their children. Seke demanded her phone, which she refused to hand over, prompting him to twist her hand. Nyadombo escaped into the house, where Muringa tried to stop Seke from entering but was assaulted instead. Seke blamed Muringa for their breakup.

Seke was ordered to pay restitution for the property damage or face 10 days in prison. For impersonation, he was sentenced to 20 days in jail or a fine of US$200.

He was charged under Section 3(1)(a) read with Section 4(1) of the Domestic Violence Act (Chapter 5:16) and Section 179 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act (Chapter 9:23) for impersonating a public official.
