Manicaland airport plan sparks debate
4 hrs ago | Views

Plans to build a new international airport in Manicaland have stirred debate, with stakeholders weighing the potential benefits against questions of feasibility.
The project, announced by provincial officials, is expected to boost tourism and trade in the eastern region, which is home to popular attractions such as the Vumba Mountains and Nyanga National Park.
Supporters argue that the airport would make the province more accessible to international visitors and attract investment. "Manicaland has huge potential. Improved air connectivity will unlock its economic opportunities," said tourism operator Josephine Mupfumi.
Critics, however, question whether the country can afford such a large project given its current economic challenges. Some argue that upgrading Mutare Airport would be a more realistic option than building a new facility from scratch.
The government has not yet released details on funding or timelines for the project, but feasibility studies are reportedly underway.
