Former Highlanders Chief Executive Officer Brian Busani Moyo, found guilty of defrauding the club of US$2,000 in a player transfer deal, is set for a community service assessment, signaling that he may receive a non-custodial sentence.
Moyo appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon for sentencing before Bulawayo Provincial Magistrate Richard Ramaboea. The proceedings were adjourned pending the completion of his community service assessment. Moyo is being represented by Victor Kucherera and Thamani Ncube of Wallace Law Chambers.
The case revolves around the December 2024 transfer of two players from Bulawayo Chiefs FC to Highlanders FC — striker Never Rauzhi and midfielder Malvern Hativagoni. Initial negotiations valued Rauzhi at US$25,000 and Hativagoni's loan at US$15,000. After Moyo allegedly negotiated the first deal down, it collapsed.
Weeks later, discussions resumed under former Bulawayo Chiefs administrator Andrew Mandigora, resulting in an agreed transfer fee of US$13,000 for Rauzhi and US$1,000 for Hativagoni. Highlanders' executive authorized the payments in March 2025, requiring dual signatures for withdrawals.
Mandigora later admitted collaborating with Moyo to inflate the reported transfer costs to Highlanders, claiming the club paid US$23,000 while Bulawayo Chiefs were informed the deal totaled US$18,000. The resulting US$5,000 difference was allegedly split, with Mandigora taking US$3,000 and Moyo US$2,000.
