Political commentator Chipo Musarurwa Siziba has warned that 'history is repeating itself' within Zanu PF, as factional tensions resurface over succession battles and internal power struggles.
Posting on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Musarurwa Siziba drew parallels between the final years of Robert Mugabe's presidency and current manoeuvres under President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
"In Zimbabwean politics, history doesn’t whisper - it shouts. The same manoeuvres, the same ambitions, the same tragic miscalculations. We've seen this play before, and the curtain is rising once again," she wrote.
Musarurwa Siziba recalled how Mugabe attempted to sideline Mnangagwa in favour of Sydney Sekeramayi, aiming to preserve his legacy through a more controllable successor. That plan ultimately failed, with Mnangagwa rising to power in a dramatic reversal backed by the military and party insiders.
"Fast forward to today, and President Mnangagwa is reading from the same worn-out chorus book. This time, the target is Vice President Constantino Chiwenga," she said.
According to Musarurwa Siziba, the strategy involves isolating and undermining Chiwenga, while positioning businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei - whom she described as 'a man synonymous with corruption, state capture, and elite plunder' - as Mnangagwa's preferred successor.
"Tagwirei is no Sekeramayi. He is not a seasoned statesman. He is a businessman with deep ties to shadowy deals and sanctioned networks. Elevating him would be a declaration that Zimbabwe is for sale to the highest bidder," she warned.
Musarurwa Siziba argued that Chiwenga, as a military tactician and political survivor, is well-versed in Zanu PF's internal dynamics and will not be easily sidelined.
"Just as Mugabe failed to suppress Mnangagwa, Mnangagwa will fail to suppress General Chiwenga. Attempts to isolate him will only galvanise his base and accelerate the inevitable," she said.
She urged Zimbabweans to remain vigilant and resist what she described as elite manipulation disguised as succession planning.
"This is not just about succession. It's about sovereignty. It's about refusing to let our future be auctioned off to criminal networks disguised as political allies," she said.
Musarurwa Siziba concluded with a rallying call: "History repeats itself - but only if we let it."
