The Government has issued a stern warning against the circulation of fake documents purported to originate from State institutions, describing the act as a serious violation of Zimbabwe's cyber laws.
This follows the recent distribution of a falsified document falsely presented as an "Intelligence and Risk Assessment Report," allegedly from a government agency.
In a statement released last night, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere said the perpetrators behind the fake publication would face the full force of the law.
"The Government of Zimbabwe has noted with concern the circulation of a fictitious document purporting to be an Intelligence and Risk Assessment Report," said Dr Muswere. "The violation of the Cyber Law is condemned in the strongest terms. The public is urged to disregard the criminal, misleading, and defamatory publication."
He further reminded citizens that all official government communication is disseminated exclusively through verified and authorised channels.
The Cyber and Data Protection Act prohibits and penalises the unlawful creation or distribution of false information and documents on social media and other digital platforms.
