Opposition activist Godfrey Karembera, popularly known as Madzibaba WeShanduko, will remain in custody after Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai dismissed his application challenging placement on remand.

Karembera is facing a charge of incitement to participate in a public gathering with intent to cause public violence, in connection with a planned anti-government demonstration dubbed the One Million Men March.

The march was reportedly organised by outspoken war veteran Blessed "Bombshell" Runesu Geza, who has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of betrayal, corruption, and looting.

According to the State, on October 16, 2025, Karembera and unidentified accomplices allegedly conspired to mobilise the public to join the protest, which was scheduled to take place the following day at Robert Gabriel Mugabe Square and Africa Unity Square in Harare.

Prosecutors told the court that Karembera and his co-conspirators distributed fliers in Highfield, Glen View, and Budiriro bearing messages such as "STOP THE LOOTING," "ZIMBABWE IS NOT FOR SALE," and "ONE MILLION MAN MARCH."

The court further heard that on the eve of the planned protest, Karembera allegedly recorded a video urging citizens to gather at Africa Unity Square and posted it on Facebook and several WhatsApp groups.

Karembera's lawyer, Paida Saurombe, argued that his client's arrest was unlawful and that the charges lacked substance. However, Magistrate Kuhudzai ruled that the State had presented a reasonable suspicion warranting Karembera's continued detention.

The application was dismissed, and Karembera was remanded in custody until October 28 for a formal bail hearing.

The court accepted the distributed fliers as exhibits in the case.
