A Catholic priest has lauded Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga for his continued dedication to his spiritual life, describing his devotion as a model of how families and communities can foster faith and social unity.
Father Victor Bushu of the Roman Catholic Church made the remarks yesterday during a ceremony marking Vice President Chiwenga's graduation from the first stage of the St Joseph's Guild. The accolade recognises commitment to church values inspired by St Joseph, particularly the duty to love, guide and protect one's family.
The Vice President completed the first phase of the Guild alongside five of his sons, in a ceremony attended by his wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga.
He was inducted with Dr Kudzai Chiwenga and Messrs Gamuchirai Chiwenga, Tawanda Chiwenga, Kudakwashe Chiwenga and Takudzwa Chiwenga.
Father Bushu said the Vice President's participation in the Guild was a demonstration of leadership rooted in faith and humility, adding that graduating with his children amplified the significance of the achievement.
"What makes his accomplishments even more remarkable is that he is living out the Church's teachings together with his family. The teachings of St Joseph highlight the importance of love and care within the family, and there is no better way to embody this than by raising children in a faith-filled environment," said Father Bushu.
He added that such acts contribute to spiritual growth within households and strengthen social and family bonds.
Catechist Mr Alois Makwembere echoed the sentiment, noting that despite the weight of his national office, the Vice President approached church responsibilities with humility.
"He truly set an exemplary standard; it was clear that his role as Vice President did not define him. He fulfilled all requirements with dedication and advanced to the next stage with competence," said Mr Makwembere.
Dr Chiwenga has previously spoken of his long-standing connection to the Roman Catholic Church, saying his spirituality guides his personal life and his public service. He has also stated that Christian values remain at the centre of his commitment to lead with honesty, discipline and selflessness.
The graduation marks a significant step in his progression within the St Joseph's Guild, symbolising a deepening of his faith journey alongside his family.
