President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday presented 10 brand-new Ford Everest vehicles to members of the Zanu-PF Elders Council as part of ongoing efforts to enhance party mobility and strengthen organisational activities. The donation, which took place at State House, also included 10 laptops, iPads, and iPhones for the party's Information and Publicity Department to support its communication and outreach mandate.
The Elders Council, led by former Cabinet Minister Sydney Sekeramayi, received the vehicles to aid in their advisory role to the party. Other council members present included Cdes Idah Mashonganyika, Josaya Hungwe, David Parirenyatwa, Enock Sibanda, Gibson Masiya, Edna Madzongwe, Angeline Masuku, Maina Mandava, and Aaron Mabhoi Ncube. President Mnangagwa personally handed over the car keys during a colourful ceremony attended by Zanu-PF Secretary-General Advocate Jacob Mudenda, Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya, and Deputy Chief Secretary George Charamba.
In his address, Sekeramayi praised President Mnangagwa's leadership, pledging the council's continued support for the government's development agenda. He highlighted improvements in infrastructure, including bridge construction, road rehabilitation, schools, and hospitals. Other council members echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for the recognition and support from the President. Former Senate President Edna Madzongwe noted that the donations demonstrated the President's commitment to party elders.
The Elders Council, composed of former Politburo members and senior party figures, advises the President on party governance, external relations, conflict resolution, and doctrine and ideology. Their role is to provide guidance on issues referred by the President and the First Secretary of the party.
President Mnangagwa also handed over laptops, iPads, and iPhones to the party's Information and Publicity Department. Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Christopher Mutsvangwa, welcomed the donations, noting that they come at a crucial time as Zimbabwe implements its National Development Strategy 2. He said the new tools would enable the department to effectively communicate the government's economic initiatives and successes, including the emergence of a vibrant middle class, business-friendly policies, and increased global economic engagement.
Mutsvangwa added that the department's role is to connect Zimbabweans across the country, highlighting local economic activity, village business units, and initiatives such as solar power adoption and financial inclusion, reinforcing the narrative of a more connected and thriving economy.
