President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially commissioned 105 officer cadets during the 41st Commissioning Parade at the Zimbabwe Military Academy, congratulating the graduates for choosing to serve the country through military service.

Addressing the parade in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, the President said the milestone reflects the defence forces' continued commitment to safeguarding Zimbabwe's territorial integrity and national security.

"This milestone and success shows commitment by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces to continue contribution to our territorial integrity and national security," he said.

The pass-out parade marked the conclusion of the first joint training programme undertaken at the academy by the Zimbabwe National Army and the Air Force of Zimbabwe. Although the course recorded a higher number of dropouts due to its rigorous demands, 105 cadets successfully completed the programme.

The President paid special tribute to the 20 female cadets who graduated, commending them for standing shoulder to shoulder with their counterparts.

He also praised the modernisation of military training, noting the integration of 21st-century warfare concepts, including technological and educational components. He urged the newly commissioned officers to remain alert to emerging digital and cyber security threats, adding that Zimbabwe is working through the African Union and Southern African Development Community to strengthen regional security partnerships.

Emphasising the bond between the military and civilians, President Mnangagwa reiterated that the defence forces must remain closely connected to the people they serve. Reflecting on Zimbabwe's liberation history, he said past struggles should serve as a reminder of the importance of defending national sovereignty.

He called on the newly commissioned officers to demonstrate unwavering patriotism and loyalty throughout their careers, stressing that military service demands selflessness and sacrifice.

The President also expressed gratitude to Midlands State University for offering diploma programmes to officer cadets, saying the initiative ensures they combine professional military training with academic development.

He urged the officers to avoid social ills, particularly drug and substance abuse, describing it as a growing national concern, and thanked the Gweru community and other stakeholders for supporting the academy in shaping disciplined officers.
