Traditional leader Chief Dakamela has dismissed social media reports claiming he was presented with a wife during the Imiklomelo ka Dakamela 2026 cultural festival held in Nkayi.
The claims circulating online alleged that Princess Andile Mabhena had been "given" to the chief as a wife during the event, sparking widespread debate and confusion on social media platforms.
However, Chief Dakamela said the reports were a misrepresentation of cultural proceedings at the festival, insisting that no person was presented as a "gift".
"Yesterday was a beautiful day. Many royals were in attendance, showcasing their culture and traditions," he said, explaining that the event featured cultural displays from invited royal families.
He said the Mabhena royal family participated in the event by presenting cultural gifts and traditions, which he said may have been misunderstood by observers.
"It is not correct to say a person can be presented as a gift in this day and age, let alone a princess," he said.
According to the chief, Princess Andile Mabhena was part of a delegation that delivered a ceremonial gift on behalf of her family, not the gift itself.
He added that while speculation about a possible relationship had emerged, any such matter would depend entirely on mutual consent.
"The princess is very beautiful, and that may have drawn attention. But the decision rests with her," he said.
In a separate statement, Princess Andile Mabhena also strongly denied the claims, describing them as false, misleading, and disrespectful.
She said she attended the festival as an invited guest and not in any capacity involving personal or marital arrangements with the chief.
"These claims are completely untrue and a misrepresentation of my presence at the event," she said, urging the public to verify information before sharing it.
Princess Mabhena called for the retraction of the viral posts, stressing that she remains committed to protecting her dignity and reputation.
