The City of Gweru has ordered the removal of all illegal tuckshops and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) kiosks operating on road servitudes, public open spaces, and private properties.

In a notice issued by Town Clerk Livingston Churu, the council said the unapproved structures violate the Regional Town and Country Planning Act and must be cleared to restore land to its designated use.

The directive targets operators who have set up tuckshops and LPG kiosks without approval, particularly in areas deemed unsafe or inconsistent with urban planning regulations. Authorities say such structures pose safety risks and contribute to disorderly development.

The enforcement order, issued under Section 32 of the Act, will take effect on April 15, 2026. Affected parties have one month to lodge an appeal with the Administrative Court.

Council warned that failure to comply could result in forced demolition, with costs charged to the owners or occupiers. It also reserved the right to issue prohibition orders under Section 34 to immediately halt illegal operations.

Officials further noted that the order will remain binding on future use of the affected land, with penalties possible for continued non-compliance.

The move is part of efforts to enforce planning regulations and improve safety and order within the city.
