A Bulawayo woman has been sentenced to an effective three years in prison after being convicted of dealing in dangerous drugs, following a police operation in the city's central business district.
Lakin Lee Robinson (30), of West Somerton suburb, was handed a six-year jail term, with three years suspended on condition she does not commit a similar offence. Her husband, Darian-Lee Kevin Lloyd Jackson (31), was also convicted and is serving an effective four-year sentence after two years were suspended.
The court heard that detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit acted on a tip-off that the couple was distributing cocaine and dagga using a white vehicle.
Prosecutor Hazel Ncube said police intercepted the vehicle in the CBD, where they discovered sachets of cocaine, dagga, cannabis gummies and cannabis-infused sweets concealed in various compartments.
A subsequent search at the couple's residence led to the recovery of additional drugs, including prepared dagga cigarettes and two 20-litre buckets filled with loose dagga.
In total, authorities seized approximately nine kilogrammes of dagga and 3.6 grammes of cocaine, with an estimated street value running into thousands of dollars.
The convictions come amid ongoing efforts by law enforcement to clamp down on drug trafficking and distribution networks in urban centres.
