Local boxing icons Charles Manyuchi and Alfonso Zvenyika have received vehicles and cash gifts from businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Zimbabwean boxing.
The two former national champions were honoured in a gesture aimed at appreciating their achievements and dedication to the sport over the years.
Manyuchi, one of Zimbabwe's most accomplished boxers, was awarded a brand-new Toyota Fortuner GD6 2026 model and US$10,000. The former World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver welterweight champion has enjoyed a distinguished career that saw him raise Zimbabwe's profile on the international boxing stage through a series of impressive performances.
Zvenyika also received recognition for his contribution to the sport, walking away with a Toyota Aqua and US$20,000. The Mbare-born boxer enjoyed a successful career and remains one of Zimbabwe's most celebrated fighters. In 1998, he won the Commonwealth Flyweight Boxing Championship and also claimed both the Zimbabwean and African Super Flyweight titles in the same year.
Chivayo said the awards were meant to honour sporting excellence and acknowledge the sacrifices made by athletes who have represented the country with distinction.
In a further show of support to the boxing fraternity, Chivayo also gifted a Toyota Aqua and US$10,000 to Tatenda Magorokosho, the widow of late boxer Ndodana Ncube, who passed away last week.
The donations have been welcomed by members of the sporting community, with many viewing the gesture as recognition of the role played by boxing legends in inspiring future generations of athletes.
