Eric Knight wins Mbare primary election

FORMER ZBC radio presenters Eric Knight and James Maridadi will represent the MDC-T in parliamentary elections expected later this year after winning in party primaries held across the country over the weekend.
Former Radio 2 DJ, Knight was endorsed to stand in Mbare, while ex-Radio 3 presenter, Maridadi - who is part of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's staff - won in Mabvuku-Tafara.
The Morgan Tsvangirai led MDC today said the confirmation exercise and primary elections held in Harare have been a resounding success.
Sitting members who were confirmed to represent the MDC-T party include Fani Munengami-Glen View North, Paul Madzore-Glen View South, Fungayi Jessie Majome- Harare West, Lucia Matibenga- Kuwadzana, Paurina Mpariwa-Mufakose, Gift Chimanikire-Southerton. They were confirmed by two thirds of the electoral college.
Sitting MPs who will have to go to primaries are Heneri Dzinotyiwei- Budiriro, Elias Jembere-Epworth, Pearson Mungofa - Highfield East, Willias Madzimure- Kambuzuma, Margaret Matienga-Sunningdale, Gift Dzirutwe-Glen Norah, Simon Ruuke Hove-Highfield West.
The primaries in Dzivarasekwa were won by the Youth Assembly Chairperson Solomon Madzore he was battling it out with Alec Masomera.
Erick Knight won the right to represent the party, in Mbare whilst James Maridadi was elected to represent the party in Mabvuku/Tafara. Lawyer Jacob Mafume won the Harare South constituency.
The official statistics of the process will be announced in due course.
Sunday will see the exercise continuing in Chitungwiza and Bulawayo. The programme will be rolled out to other parts of the country on Monday.
Erick Knight's former Radio 2 colleague, Ezra Tshisa Sibanda, is also looking to run on an MDC-T ticket in the Zanu-PF held Midlands constituency of Vungu.
