A cross section of workers has expressed mixed feelings towards the commemoration of May Day, while in Mbare it was business as usual as traders wanted to maximise revenue since it is month end.
The ZBC visited Mbare where revealed that the traditional venue for the Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions (ZFTU) commemorations was deserted.
It was just another day as traders had to maximise on revenue which usually comes at the end of the month.
Streets in the central business district had less numbers compared to what is usually witnessed during a working day.
Those who spoke to ZBC said this is an important day which every worker should reflect on for a better tomorrow and gives the employer a chance to review some of the conditions of service.
Others said it is important for them to continue working hard even on may day to ensure that there is continuity.
The economy has faced a number of challenges in the past ten years which led to the closure of several companies across the country with some retrenching thousands of workers.
However, hopes are high that the full implementation of ZIMASSET will bring new employment opportunities as industry will be revived.
