Ex-cop robs service station

HARARE-BASED ex-policeman Dzingira Cheche two months ago turned criminal and robbed a Total Service Station along Kwame Nkrumah Avenue in the capital city of $400 cash and two cellphones.

Cheche (46) appeared before Harare regional magistrate Hosea Mujaya yesterday facing two counts of armed robbery and was remanded in custody to Thursday this week.

The court heard that Cheche committed the alleged robbery on May 1 this year at the corner of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue and Second Street.

It is alleged that on the day in question, Cheche stormed the fuel station at around 4am armed with a loaded CZ pistol and confronted the cashier Milton Maambiwa.

Brandishing the firearm, Cheche allegedly opened the cash office door and ordered Maambiwa to lie down while he robbed them of cash and a cellphone.

He then confronted the fuel attendant Tawanda Chimwanda who was on the forecourt and robbed him of another cellphone.

Following his arrest, Cheche led the police detectives to Patson Kutama whom he had allegedly sold one of the stolen cellphones, leading to its recovery.

Police then organised an identification parade on August 7 where Maambiwa positively identified Cheche.
