IT was a double tragedy for a Chipinge man who was initially left stranded after his vehicle ran out of fuel before a robber struck and made good his escape with property worth $400 last week.
The robbery occurred along the Tanganda-Ngundu highway. "Philip Kusosa (29) was driving his Toyota Ipsum with his girlfriend, Cynthia Gwenzi (26), when their vehicle ran out fuel at the 268km peg.
"The two locked the doors of the car and proceeded to Tanganda Business Centre to buy fuel," said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri.
"The complainants were approached by the suspect who stabbed Kusosa on the left arm with an Okapi knife. The robber grabbed a laptop worth $400 which Kusosa was holding and took to his heels," added Insp Chishiri.
He said the robber is still at large and Kusosa was rushed to St Peter's Mission Hospital for treatment.
In a unrelated incident, a Buhera man, Trymore Mutandwa (26) of Murwira Village under Chief Nyashanu, was robbed of $20, a pair of blue jeans, two white African-attire garments, a Nokia mobile phone and a T-shirt, by a fake policeman.
The incident happened around 5am when Mutandwa was on his way to Mutare.
Insp Chishiri said Mutandwa disembarked from a commuter omnibus at Wasarawasara Shops at Murambinda.
He said Mutandwa decided to look for connecting transport at Chani turn-off, but he was stopped by a man who claimed to be a policeman who wanted to search him.
Mutandwa demanded the man's work identity particulars, but he was shown a passport.
The suspect proceeded to beat him up and robbed him of his belongings.
