A woman told the Harare Civil Court yesterday that her abusive husband quit his job to avoid paying maintenance for his five children.
Agness Chiwanda claimed James Chitubu left his job in a bid to fix her and the children. Chiwanda made the revelations at the court where she was seeking a protection order against Chitubu, whom she was accusing of breaching her peace.
"He quit his job after telling me that I was not going to receive a cent from him since he would be unemployed," she said.
Chiwanda told magistrate Ms Ruth Kamangira that Chitubu ran away from their matrimonial home and was now living with his girlfriend.
"He is in the habit of sexually abusing me each time he comes from his girlfriend's house," she said.
"He infected me with a sexually transmitted disease and refused to give me money for treatment. He is also chasing me out of our matrimonial home," she said.
Chitubu denied the allegations levelled against him.
"She is lying just to please this court to grant her application because I am not in any way abusing her as she is alleging," he said.
Chitubu told the court that he was not opposed to Chiwanda's application since he was not breaching her peace.
Ms Kamangira granted the order in Chiwanda's favour which barred Chitubu from physically or verbally abusing her.
