A 36-YEAR-OLD Harare man who displayed his manhood before a teenage girl is now pleading with the court to spare him jail, saying his family will starve if he is imprisoned.

Emmanuel Makahamadze appeared before Mbare magistrate Ms Gladys Moyo last week charged with public indecency.

Ms Moyo remanded the matter to today for sentence.

Makahamadze pleaded not guilty to the charges but said he was too drunk to know what happened on the day in question. "Your worship I do not remember what exactly happened on the day in question because I was very drunk.

"But I do not think that I did it because all I remember is that I went to her house to ask for water," he said.

Makahamadze pleaded with Ms Moyo to be lenient with him as he was a family man. "Please be merciful on me because I am the breadwinner and my family is looking up to me. If I go to jail they will suffer," he said.

Prosecutor Mr Doubtful Mateo alleged that on February 10 around seven in the morning, the girl and her friend were going home when Makahamadze followed them. He grabbed one of the girls but she managed to escape. Makahamadze allegedly followed the other girl with his zip open and exposing his erect manhood for the teenager to see.

The girl sought refuge at a nearby house but Makahamadze forced his way into the house through the window. He again displayed his manhood.

He was later arrested.
