Man arrested for attempted murder of a cop

A 27-year-old man has been arrested for attempted murder of a member of Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

ZRP Spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said the culprit, Forget Kwarirandunda nearly killed Sergeant Ester Mapani, who was manning a road block with other police details along Harare-Mukumbura road towards Mt Darwin.

She said on 11 August 2015 at around 10.am, Kwarirandunda, who was driving a Toyota Ipsum towards Mt Darwin, was stopped by Sergeant Mapani and other police details and during the inspection of the vehicle, he suddenly drove off while the police officer was in front of the vehicle, prompting her to cling on the vehicle.

Sergeant Mpani was dragged for about 200m before Kwarirandunda's vehicle was blocked by an army truck.

Senior Assistant Commissioner Charamba warned motorists to cooperate with police, the law will descend heavily on those defying.
