FORMER MDC-T's Masvingo provincial intelligence secretary Misheck Gapare has formally applied to join Zanu-PF saying the beleaguered opposition party has lost its lustre.
Gapare who is also a former Ward 8 councillor said he has lost trust in the Morgan Tsvangirai led political party and regrets the time he spent supporting "political charlatans whose agenda is to destroy and not build."
He said he dumped the party he helped found because the leadership is "myopic, clueless on the challenges affecting the country and uses divisive tendencies to cause confusion in the MDC movement."
He said Zanu-PF is more organised and upholds the values of the liberation struggle which every Zimbabwean should adhere to, as part of retaining identity as a people.
Gapare has formally written to the provincial executive expressing his intention to join Zanu-PF saying that he has, "reformed". The provincial executive committee referred him to the district executive who referred him to the ward committee.
Zanu-PF ward 8 secretary for security Against Chiteme confirmed receiving the application letter from Gapare.
"Yes I can confirm that he formally applied to join Zanu-PF and we received his letter as a ward committee. We're waiting due process to take precedence before we can confirm him as our bona fide member," said Chitemere.
In the application letter addressed to Zanu-PF district person, Arron Ndahwi, Gapare said he had decided to join the revolutionary party because of its developmental policies.
"I hereby apply for permission to join Zanu-PF as a substantive political party member. I had been a member of MDC led by Tsvangirai since its formation but now want to join Zanu-PF due to its policies on development and in conformity with the African Apostolic Church policies as I am an evangelist," reads part of the letter.
He said he has left Tsvangirai's party and is regretting having joined it from the start as it does not have a vision.
Gapare said there are many disgruntled members in the party and it is only a matter of time before they leave the faction-ridden political ensemble for Zanu-PF.
Gapare said he could no longer stand Tsvangirai's dictatorial and flip-flopping tendencies.
"In actual fact when we formed this party we never wanted him to be the president due to his dictatorship. We agreed that he was going to be the secretary general, the position he held at Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), which I was part of as president of its affiliate, Commercial Workers Union in Zimbabwe (CWUZ)," he said.
He criticised Tsvangirai for claiming that he does not recognise President Mugabe yet he wants him to process the benefits he accrued when he was Prime Minister during the inclusive government.
"It defies logic for Tsvangirai to claim that President Mugabe is not a legitimate leader and yet he's now demanding the same person to preside over his package.
"How can you demand a legitimate package from an illegitimate President? That is absurd," he said.
