Norton Town council has been accused of failing to provide a mortuary for the residents a development which has prompted it to lose respect from the residents.

Harare residents Trust said how does a council that fails to provide residents with a mortuary expect to be respected by the people?

"The Norton Mortuary, at the Norton Hospital, which is under the charge of the Norton Town Council, has been dysfunctional for the past five years," said the trust.

"Residents whose relatives die at the hospital are being forced to take the bodies of their dead relatives to a mortuary owned by Doves Funeral Services, a private morgue, where they are charged US$50, which is unaffordable to most people."

The trust said the situation is desperate.

"The Norton Town Council does not have figures or details of what is wrong with the dysfunctional morgue, or what is needed to get the morgue functional again. This has raised serious suspicions that the senior management of the Norton Town Council have joined hands with Doves Funeral Services where they are allegedly receiving bribes to keep the public Mortuary closed," said the trust.
