The MDC Bulawayo Provincial Youth Leadership Condemns the unjustified and arbitrary arrest of 7 Youth Leaders by the Zimbabwe National Army and the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
The Leadership comprising of Provincial Chairman Jackson Lunga, National Secretary for Political Education Andrew Nyathi, Provincial Treasurer Sharlene Ndlovu and 4 other district leaders for Bulawayo Central were in the discharge of their duty to moblise Youths around Saucetown area.
They were arrested by the member of the ZNA as they were passing near the Bulawayo State house. The police allegedly that the leaders were throwing flyers inside the state house.
They were made to do drills and poured with water before being handed over to the Saucetown Police Station. They are detained at the Police Station as of Yet.
Their unwarranted arrested is a significance that the State is afraid of its own citizens and is employing all its machinery to suppress the democratisation process.
As the Bulawayo Youth Assembly we are awaiting them to be formally charged tomorrow(Sunday ) so that we can determine the nature of the charge and the extent of any action that might necessary to be taken during this process as the law takes its course.
In that regard we urge the State to give them a fair trial according to the laws of Zimbabwe.
