IN a chilling incident which sent shockwaves across the sleepy farming town of Marondera, a prominent 58 year old businessman reportedly fired five bullets on her worker-cum-married girlfriend before surrendering to the police.
Acting Mashonaland East Provincial Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thando Madhoyo confirmed the incident which became the talk of the town and said that the accused, Tichaona Phillip Chamunorwa of 275 Tangwena Square, Nyameni is in police custody assisting police with investigations.
Chamunorwa runs the Harmburger Bay restaurant in town and a bar at Nyameni Shopping Centre.
According to Assistant Inspector Madhoyo, Chamunorwa drove his Mazda 323 vehicle to the deceased 38-year old and picked her to Muteke Farm just outside Marondera. The deceased was his worker and was reportedly a married woman with whom he had an affair.
When they arrived at the farm, he parked his vehicle and allegedly withdrew a Ross Special 38 revolver which was loaded with five rounds and fired all the five rounds at the victim, hitting her on the left side of the chest, forehead and on the left side of the head.
It is believed that the victim died on the spot. Chamunorwa then drove his vehicle with the body of the victim on the passenger's seat to Marondera Central Police Station. He then reportedly confessed the murder to the police and he was placed in custody while the body of the deceased was conveyed to Marondera General Hospital for postmortem.
Assistant Inspector Madhoyo appealed to members of the public to seek professional counseling whenever they have disputes, rather than killing each other.
