An alleged Harare kachasu drinker was sued by his wife on allegations of abuse.

Miriam Chiwaya told Harare Civil court magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi that her husband was a problem when he was drunk as she sought a protection order against him.

"I am living in a very devastating situation. My husband is a drunkard who enjoys drinking that very dangerous and cheap beer called kachasu. When he has one too many he ends up being violent.

"He insults me and destroys our property. He uses vulgar words to insult me and the children. He has no respect for anyone. As I speak right now we were given a notice to leave the house we are renting because he even insults the landlord.

"His drinking problem has caused all of us a lot of pain. I am the one who takes care of everything at home financially. What he is good at is drinking. If he gets a menial job he squanders all the money by drinking.

"His violent nature has become unbearable that is why I have come to the court for help. The children and I no longer know peace," she said.

Miriam's husband, Solomon Alika was not present to give his side of the story.

The protection order Miriam sought was granted.
