The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists, ZUJ, has hailed journalists from across the media divide for standing up in solidarity and support for their colleague, Mugove Tafirenyika of The Daily News who came under attack from Zanu PF activists at the party's headquarters on Wednesday.
Journalists who attended the event have weighed in with congratulations for the professional conduct by the journalists.
After seeing their colleague assaulted and with threats of detention, the journalists threatened to walk out of the event, prompting the attackers and officials at the event which was addressed by President Robert Mugabe to intervene.
ZUJ Secretary General, Foster Dongozi said: "As a Union we would like to congratulate the comrades for their ability to show strong solidarity in ensuring the safety and security of fellow journalists. This was the clearest sign yet that journalists will not stand by and allow state and none state actors to abuse them with impunity. Let all the media predators out there know that an injury to one is an injury to all."
