A 46-YEAR-OLD man from Gweru lost his Toyota Hilux single cab vehicle to thieves after he parked it by the roadside while relieving himself in a bush. Acting Midlands province police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende, confirmed the incident which she said happened on Thursday at around 9PM.

She said the police were investigating the theft of a Toyota Hilux — registration number ADI 2200 —which was last seen by its owner in the heavy industrial area near CMED complex in Gweru.

Asst Insp Mukwende said the driver of the vehicle Mr Tevera Tevera of Mkoba 7 suburb, Gweru told the police that he was driving from Gweru CBD using Bristol Road when he parked his car near the CMED complex to relieve himself in a nearby bush.

She said Mr Tevera took about 30 minutes in the bush before returning to find his vehicle gone. "He left his car doors unlocked with the keys on the ignition," said Asst Insp Mukwende.

"When he came back he found his car gone and is saying that he didn't see or hear anyone drive his car away. The complainant then reported the matter to the police."

The police, she said, are carrying out investigations on the matter and are appealing to the public for any information or clues that might lead to the arrest of a suspect(s) and recovery of the vehicle.

"At the same time we would like to appeal to the members of the public to lock their vehicles all the time when they are leaving them parked especially in unprotected areas. They should also not leave valuables in cars," said Asst Insp Mukwende.
