Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko, has dismissed reports that he summoned Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) commissioners after the Professor Jonathan Moyo's ZIMDEF saga, saying the claims are calculated to tarnish his image and that of the government.
Mphoko however slammed the ZACC commissioners for disrespecting President Robert Mugabe's instruction to stop the arrest of Professor Moyo for allegedly abusing ZIMDEF funds.
Addressing thousands of Zanu PF supporters at Kent Estate in Norton constituency this Thursday, Vice President Mphoko described the move by ZACC commissioners to attempt to arrest Professor Moyo at the Zanu PF Politburo meeting last week, as a move to undermine the authority of Mugabe who was chairing a crucial meeting.
Mphoko did not mince his words when he told the rally attended by high ranking party officials including the Zanu PF National Political Commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere, Edna Madzongwe, Dr Douglas Mombeshora, Prisca Mupfumira and Kudzanai Chipanga ,among others, that President Mugabe is the one who instructed the Minister of State Security, Kembo Mohadi not to arrest Professor Moyo.
He blasted ZACC commissioner, Goodson Nguni and described him as a sell-out bent on dividing the revolutionary Zanu PF party.
On the forthcoming Norton by-election, Mphoko urged Zanu PF supporters to rally behind the party's candidate, Ronald Chindedza and shame the independent candidate, Themba Mliswa whom he said is fronting the country's detractors.
Vice President Mphoko handed over drought relief food aid and the presidential agricultural support inputs to thousands of people who attended the rally.
The Norton by-election which will be held on the 22nd of this month follows the ouster of Christopher Mutsvanga who has since been expelled from the revolutionary party.
