The MDC-T dominated Harare City Council is reportedly rocked by divisions among the Councillors due to emerging factions in their political party.

Harare Residents Trust reported that as the sharp differences afflicting service delivery at Town House, the Councillors are reportedly split into four groups, following their party factions, and economic interests.

"The other group is led by so-called super councillors Hebert Gomba and Wellington Chikombo, which includes Councillors Peter Moyo, Mupamawonde, Tranos Moyo while the other one has Councillors Stewart Mutizwa, Christopher Mbanga, Barnabas Ndira, Joseph Rose, while the other ones are in the Zanu PF councillors where the eight councillors allegedly belong to different factions," said the trust.

"At the same time these councillors align with different heads of departments for their own selfish purposes as they executive their personalised ward agendas, instead of the whole council agenda of serving the residents. The differences were so sharply exposed during the funeral of Deputy Mayor Mbanga's wife."

The trust said the Mayor of Harare Bernard Manyenyeni demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that he has not forgiven Mbanga for his decision not to endorse the improper recruitment and appointment of James Mushore as Town Clerk.

"He did not attend the funeral, neither did he even go to share his condolences to Councillor Mbanga during his time of bereavement. In traditional culture, even enemies abandon their enmity during mourning in order to join hands of mourning the passing on of someone," said the trust.

"An unforgiving heart will not unite people of Harare. Instead, it becomes a major source of conflict. Why should normal people hate people to the extent of not sharing sadness and bereavement? That was wrong Mr Mayor, go and express your condolences to your Deputy, irrespective of your unforgiving him for standing on the side of City regulations."

The HRT said it wants the Town House to be restored to the citizens.
