Mutare to launch Murambatswina on illegal squatters

Mutare City Council is preparing to destroy close to 300 shacks in Chikanga township.
According to the Daily News, the affected families were used by Zanu PF to beef up its numbers by controversially adding them onto the Dangamvura-Chikanga constituency during the June 2015 by-elections.
After the elections, they were moved to Chikanga from Dangamvura.
City mayor Tatenda Nhamarare moved the motion this week.
Only one councillor objected.
"I propose that we put all our efforts to demolishing illegal structures on the illegal Devonshire squatters because they pose a serious health risk to the city," be said.
