Neighbourhood Watch Committee members honoured

17 members of the Gweru Rural Neighbourhood Watch Committee (NWC) were at the weekend honoured for their outstanding performance during the district's cop of the month award ceremony. The officers were presented with certificates and cash as token of appreciation for their hardwork.

The NWC members during the month arrested 12 criminals facing rape and murder charges. The Officer in Charge, Gweru Rural, Inspector Samuel Tadzaushe commended the NCW members for the hardwork and commitment which he said was assistingt the police to fight crime.

Inspector Tadzaushe said, "As we are targeting a crime free environment for our country we are initiating community policing and marketing the concept of citizen's arrest, which is bringing in members of the community and the Neighbourhood Watch Committee to help us track down criminals."

Insp Tadzaushe said members of the community are empowered to effect a citizen's arrest.
