NSSA pensioners are suffering
06 Nov 2018 at 02:33hrs | Views
The prevailing price distortions in the country has thrown NSSA pensioners in the deep end. The paltry monthly pay outs has left most if not all hardly able to buy food and medications for ailments that usually come with old age.
Many pensioners suffer from noncommunicable diseases like diabetes, arthritis and hypertension. Prices for blood sugar medication has shot through the pockets of those on NSSA pension payroll.
Whilst government is trying hard to cushion everyone against high prices and making medical drugs available, Noone has raised a voice for NSSA pensioners the majority of whom are voiceless due to old age and illness.
Who shall speak for this vulnerable group whose pension can now barely buy anything? Pharmacies are now demanding payment in USD or 'rated bond notes and coins'. The NSSA pensioner is confused and not feeling well, medication is not reachable and his wallet thinner than before. Our elders deserve better, they worked hard for this nation, they are neither basic food hoarders nor money changes but mere pensioners.
They are not part of the problems neither are they part of the solution. Give our NSSA pensioners a living pension pay out. I appeal to the Hon. Minister of Social Welfare to give this desperate matter the urgent attention it deserves. Hunger and illness are 'culling' our elders.
