Right minds should remain in government

11 Dec 2014 at 08:34hrs | Views
The firing of former Vice President Joyce Mujuru and 8 ministers by His Excellency, President Robert Mugabe is a welcome development that boosts confidence in his leadership. That was a stern decision taken to get-rid of non-compliant personalities that would not implement party ideology and Government policies correctly as they were propelled by deviant focus.

Keeping such personalities in his Government would have created unnecessary discordance which sways national interest. The fired cabal was poised at serving nefarious political interests which are at variance with the grand purpose of their positions in Government.

Some of the personalities, like Webster Shamu, should have been fired a long time ago. Shamu is infamous for his wicked role in running down Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) during Happison Muchechetere era when he was the then Minister of Information and Publicity. He is on record for stripping the national broadcaster which he commanded to buy him a luxurious V8 Land-cruiser, weekly fuel allocation, plus a $ 10 000 monthly allowance. This resulted in the suspension of Muchechetere in 2013. As if that was not enough, when he was re-assigned to be Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, he continued sabotaging Zanu-PF and government processes.

Shamu abused trust crowned on him by the President, so as every other person that has been fired with him during these trying times. Zimbabwe needs sharp minds at this point in time to implement effectively and efficiently the economic blue-print, ZIM-ASSET. The rest of the nation is pinning hope on it; therefore, keeping people with different agendas in Government is detrimental. So all dead apples relegated to the political dust-bins go now or Zimbabwe will crumble and sink into abyss.

Dzikamai Mavhaire and Munacho Mutezo should account for funds embezzlement allegations that they are facing at ZESA. No level of impunity should be allowed to prevail in the face of such serious corrupt tendencies which amount to gross abuse of public office.

Meticulous and rigorous investigations should be done in order to flush out all those that deserve reprimand and give precedence for justice to prevail.  A united nation is a spring-board for development. Hence, the urgent need to flush out all deviant people out of all national development structures.

This same treatment should be extended to all corrupt public figures that are robbing the nation in broad day light. Corruption has retarded the rate of our national development. Belts should be tightened to investigate and bring to book all those found guilty of such an offence in government ministries, parastatals, local councils and the corporate world. This is the only way we can be assured of restoring good corporate governance in all our institutions.

There is need for strong political-will on such a matter. Government can open toll-free lines where the public can phone supplying all evidence which can be used to incriminate all criminals. All those fingered should be brought before the courts for justice to rule. Suitable pieces of legislation should be promulgated to back up such moves so as to re-align societal transactions which are currently submerged in grand corruption. This is the opportune time when we really need to see Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Unit in action.

The Government should also take a leading role in public awareness campaigns in order to educate them on symptoms and effects of corruption to society, as well as to enable them to discover what roles they can play to eradicate this vice.
