The Revolution is following the dinosaurs: Of Zanu Pf, Norton and ZICOSU
24 Oct 2016 at 18:22hrs | Views
Once upon a time there used to be a revolutionary political party in the land between Zambezi and Limpopo. This party resembled the aspirations of black people and their thirst for a democratic black driven nation. However just as the novelist Modekai Hamutyinei wrote , "Kwave Kupindana kwemazuva" that party and the revolution is slowly but surely following the dinosaurs and what will be left of it are just sweet and sour memories of a great revolution betrayed.
On Saturday, Zanu PF lost the Norton By-election to an Independent candidate, Temba Mliswa in what will be remembered as the defining moment of Zimbabwean and Zanu PF politics.
Its defining in the sense that the opposition movements view this as a major victory in their struggle for change and it will surely enhance their spirits come 2018. Yet it's also defining in the sense that Zanu PF and particularly its President Robert Mugabe has come face to face with the truth and surely if the President and the party are to fancy their chances of winning in 2018 then something needs to be done and urgently.
Some political confusionists were quick to dismiss the Norton election as another strategy by Zanu PF to trick the opposition parties and western countries into accepting that indeed there is democracy in Zimbabwe and there is no need for electoral reforms in 2018. Only a person suffering from some sort of ideological ebola can think that it was Zanu Pf strategy to lose in Norton.
As I am writing, heads are rolling in Zanu PF, a post-mortem is currently underway and some people having been sleeping with their shoes on since Saturday. To make matters worse the Zanu PF aligned student movement ZICOSU was thorough bashed in the University of Zimbabwe SRC election by the opposition aligned ZINASU. These two defeats cannot be viewed as a mere coincidence or planned incidences of history, rather these defeats should be viewed as the first symptoms of a revolution following the dinosaurs
If truth be told, Zanu Pf is slowly losing its base.
A party which was founded on a foundation of pan African values and whose supporting pillars were the veterans of a liberation struggle is now more of casino movement identified with looting and spending sprees in Asian nations whilst pillared by a generation of individuals who suffer from some exaggerated self importance.
Zanu PF lost because for a long time it has taken people for granted and has exceeded the limit in its propaganda dictionary. The party has no more lies to tell the people of Zimbabwe because its now led by young criminals who have no idea of what that party stood for in 1963. Whilst I support the idea of young people occupying the political space in Zimbabwe, Zanu PF made a blunder of appointing people with a tainted record of looting and corruption to lead the youth movement. It will take all the greatest prophets, the Pope and the second coming of Christ to cleanse people like Saviour Kasukuwere and Jonathan Moyo off their corrupt sins. Zanu PF has lost its ability to mobilise new members since the departure of most war veterans who were expelled from the party.
Young lads like Kudzai Chipanga think that politics is as easy as distributing stands, No comrades, Zimbabweans are too educated to be bought by a demographic environmental piece of clay soil and trees. Zimbabweans are now sick and tired of this stock exchange type of Politics where votes have an exchange rate. People simply want bread and butter issues resolved. They want jobs, quality education, proper housing and a stable economic environment for business.
After the dust has settled Zanu PF should go back to the drawing board and answer the following questions. Is Kasukuwere the best candidate for national PC? For how long should the party continue defending and protecting corrupt elements and criminals? Isn't this the time to groom someone to take over the leadership of the party? The people of Norton have spoken, and their voices were loud and clear and the whole of Zimbabwean was listening, it's only a matter of time before the people of Masvingo, Buluwayo, Gwanda , Mutare, Marondera etc start speaking and when such a collective voice thunders, Some Revolutionary Party will follow the dinosaurs!!!!
