BELGIUM-BASED former Highlanders midfielder Honour Gombami says he has fully recovered from the horrific knee injury he sustained while turning out for Cercle Brugge in 2009 and could be back in action on the local scene if he fails to get a club in Europe.
Gombami, whose contract at Belgium's oldest club Royal Antwerp which plays in the Division Two League has expired, is in the country and was spotted at the Bantu Rovers-Chicken Inn Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match on Tuesday at Luveve Stadium.
Gombami watched the match with former AmaZulu, Highlanders and Warriors midfielder Vusumuzi "S'gcebhe" Nyoni, who also plays in Belgium for RAEC Mons.
"I am still not playing, but I am okay now. You know I had a knee injury, but I have fully recovered and will start playing soon.
"I cannot say specifically when I will be back, but what I can tell you is that I will go back to Europe and try out there. If I do not make it I will come back home."
Asked if he would try and rejoin his former team Highlanders, Gombami said: "Anything can happen. Nothing is impossible, but for now I will go back and see what happens."
The midfielder left the country at the height of his career in 2007 to join Cercle Brugge and stayed at the club for five years.
He later joined Royal Antwerp, but due to the nagging injury that he suffered at Brugge, Gombami has not been playing.
"My contract ended last season and I will be looking for a new team when I return to Europe," he said.
He last turned out for the Warriors under Brazilian coach José Valinhos in the World Cup qualifier against Kenya in 2008.
At Highlanders, Gombami was part of the 2006 championship winning team which had Tapuwa Kapini, Obadiah Tarumbwa, Nyoni, Master Masiku, Ricky Sibiya, Ralph Matema, Gilbert Banda, Johannes Ngodzo, Richard Choruma, Stanford Ncube, Farai Mujokoro, Bekithemba Ndlovu and Danisa Phiri.
The team was coached by Methembe Ndlovu, now coaching at Bantu Rovers.
